Today's Best Odds

Today's matches, and how to tell a fair price from a poor one

The matches below are the ones Powerplay247 has markets for today and over the next few days. A price is worth taking when it pays more than you think the result deserves. Turn the odds into a percentage (1 divided by the odds), compare it with your own view, and check the back and lay gap before you stake.

Where to check match fixtures and rules

Dates, venues and playing rules come from the organisers. Check these official pages before you bet; markets on Powerplay247 settle on the official result.

01

What makes a price the best one?

Odds are only good or bad compared with the chance of the result. Decimal odds of 2.00 say the outcome happens about half the time. If you think a team wins six games in ten, 2.00 is a good price. If you think it wins four in ten, the same 2.00 is a poor one.

So the best odds today are not simply the biggest numbers on the page. They are the prices where your own reading of the match and the market disagree, and you have a reason for your view.

02

Back and lay: two prices for every result

On the Powerplay247 exchange each outcome shows a back price and a lay price. Backing is betting that something happens. Laying is betting that it does not, and you pay the backer if it does.

The gap between the two tells you how busy the market is. On a big cricket match the gap is usually small. On a quiet tennis qualifier it can be wide, and a wide gap means you give up value every time you trade.

  • Back price: what you are paid if the result happens
  • Lay price: what you pay out if the result happens
  • A narrow gap usually means a busy, fairly priced market
  • A wide gap is a reason to wait or use a smaller stake

03

When do odds move the most?

Prices shift hardest on news. In cricket that is the toss, the playing XI and the pitch report, which often come within an hour of the start. In football it is the team sheet, usually out an hour before kick-off. In tennis it is fitness, travel and how a player finished their last match.

Once play starts, prices react to every wicket, goal or break of serve. If you want a steady price, bet after the team news and before the first ball. If you like trading, in-play is where the movement is.

Step by step

How to find a good price on today's matches

  1. 01

    Pick a match you follow

Start with a sport and league you know. Your edge comes from knowing the teams better than the average punter.

  2. 02

    Work out the implied chance

Divide 1 by the back price. Odds of 1.85 imply about 54%. Ask yourself whether you rate the team higher than that.

  3. 03

Check the back and lay gap

A small gap means you can get in and out cheaply. A large one means the price may not hold.

  4. 04

    Stake after the team news

Wait for the toss or the team sheet if you can. Prices are most reliable once line-ups are known.

Odds show what the market thinks, not what will happen

A short price means a lot of money agrees with one side. Favourites still lose every week, so size your stake for the chance of being wrong.

  • Set a daily budget before you open the markets
  • Skip the match when no price looks right to you
  • Never raise stakes to win back a loss

Frequently asked questions

5 questions

Where can I see today's best odds on Powerplay247?

Log in with your Powerplay247 ID and open the sport you want. Every listed match shows its live back and lay prices. The fixtures on this page link to each match preview so you can read up before you bet.

What do decimal odds of 1.85 mean?

A ₹100 stake at 1.85 returns ₹185 if it wins, which is ₹85 profit plus your ₹100 back. The implied chance is 1 divided by 1.85, or about 54%.

Why do odds change before a match starts?

Prices follow the money and the news. The toss, the playing XI, injuries, weather and pitch reports all move the market, usually in the last hour before the start.

Is it better to bet before the match or during it?

Before the start you get a settled price once the team news is out. During play prices move with every wicket or goal, which suits people who watch the match live and want to trade. Neither is better in general. It depends on how closely you follow the game.

What is the difference between back and lay odds?

Backing means betting a result will happen. Laying means betting it will not, so you act as the bookmaker and pay out if it does. The lay price is usually a little higher than the back price, and the gap shows how busy the market is.
